First, I had to remember how to breathe. Then, I had to learn how to survive. Two years, three months and sixteen days had passed since I was the Rowe Stanton from before, since tragedy stole my youth and my heart went along with it. When I left for college, I put a thousand miles between my future and my past. I’d made a choice—I was going to cross back to the other side, to live with the living. I just didn’t know how. And then I met Nate Preeter. An All-American baseball player, Nate wasn’t supposed to notice a ghost-of-a-girl like me. But he did. He shouldn’t want to know my name. But he did. And when he learned my secret and saw the scars it left behind, he was supposed to run. But he didn’t. My heart was dead, and I was never supposed to belong to anyone. But Nate Preeter had me feeling, and he made me want to be his. He showed me everything I was missing. And then he showed me how to fall. *This is a standalone in a three-part series that will focus on different characters. Each book can be read on its own.
My review :
This book totally takes my breath away! The story of this girl, homeschooled for the last two years after a tragedy which took both her boyfriend and her best friend in one night. Completely broken, she tried to move on and trying to have a « normal » life. She lost her sparkle until the met Nate, a student living in the same floor with his big brother Ty. In one meeting, something awakes in her. Rowe is always self restrained, far away from who she was. Nate noticed it, and showed her how to live again, by letting go and falling..again. Beyond all the hard moments, the sadness, we have some funny, happy moments, showing us how to recover, and to experience again: Rowe and Nate make a wonderful team against Ty : the part with Cookie was so funny! He always challenges her! She let him in. They became very close and had so overwhelming feelings for Nate and felt bad for it because of her boyfriend situation. When she went through hard times, she blocked up and ran away. We can see that it’s very difficult for her to move on but fortunately Nate is always here to catch her when she falls. This story was so emotional, sweet and poignant, and i definitely fall for the author’s writing, describing how to live, to love, to be carefree again. A beautiful lesson of life! I can’t wait for the next one because Ty is fucking amazing and i’m so thrilled that he will got his story!
