Blurb:
Dark. Powerful. Dangerous.
Philip Murphy has all of Chicago under his thumb. Except me.
We met in a perfect storm of violence and lust. He saved me and then disappeared from my life. Now I pretend I never knew that kind of darkness. I focus on midterms and campus parties, as if they can wipe the slate clean.
Then he turns up outside my dorm room—wounded and barely conscious. He’s the head of a crime syndicate, a powerful man, but he needs me now. There are traitors in his midst.
I can help him, but I can’t fall for him.
Not again.

It was my first book by Skye Warren and it won’t be my last! This story blown my mind, and I was utterly captivated by this dark romance.
Claire/Ella was thrust into a world of violence, due to her father’s gambling debts. Lost in this world and ended with the wrong crowd, she was kidnapped by a shady underground group. Their price : her body.
When she got a chance to get away and found help from two people she didn’t know before this horrible night, she learnt that nothing is free, everything is negotiated, traded. You have to pay for your freedom.
Powerful. Dangerous. Intriguing. Philip was the man of the situation. When he decided to help Claire/Ella afraid and helpless, he knew that he couldn’t get away from her. With his protection, no one would touch her. A complex man with so many layers. This dark world was his and when you decided to choose this path, there’s a price to pay and a lot enemies.
When the two met, you can’t deny the intense sexual tension, and because of their differences, world they lived, he let her go.
Something passed between them, a dark, visceral need, but not satisfied.
Then time lapse of three years … Claire/Ella was trying to move on, to live her life as a student but still fascinated by criminals. After all these years, she couldn’t get Philip out of her head and heart, and she was lusting after an experienced man, king of organized crime.
As the demons of her past coming back, Philip showed up and needed her help.
“I’m always here. Wherever you go, I follow. Watching you, waiting for you. Wanting you. The only difference is last night—I didn’t leave.”
The fire is still there and Claire/Ella is willing to help him, but what is the price? With her family totally selfish, self centered to their own problems and aware that she was the good girl and would do anything for her family.
Once again, she was “kidnapped” … but this time by Philip.
“We are not equals. I am the bars and you are inside me, trapped here, and I’m never fucking letting you go. You can touch me, you can fight me. But you can’t ever leave.”
Obviously you won’t find flowers and chocolate in Philip and Ella’s romance, but all I say that it was incredibly erotic, scorching, rough and violent.
They were challenging, pushing each other’s limits until the moment when everything’s said and done.
“This mouth. This body. It’s mine. I’m the only man who can touch it, who can fuck it.”
Some parts made my heart pulse, thanks to Philip’s passionate side. Damn it was smoking hot. You’ll probably need some cold showers to stop the fire or not! Philip is an Alpha male, who would go anything to protect Ella.
“From the moment I saw you sleeping on a chair in my house. I didn’t know who you were. I just knew you were mine.”
Their story is like no other. The plot is enticing, the characters were complex and captivating. Lines between good and wrong are blurred. I loved it!
They changed for the better and the worse. Nothing would be the same. The author knew how to write about broken souls and make them whole. Raw and explosive!
