Paul James loved Clara Bateman.
Hating her would have been easier.
She was the past, and he was hell-bent on keeping her there.
Or so he thought…
Craigslist Ad: DESPERATELY SEEKING EPIC
You’re my father.
I don’t know much about you. I know your name is Paul James, you’re a thrill seeker, and once upon a time you did stunts and people called you ‘Epic.’
I’ve been told you don’t know about me. That it’s complicated.
But for me it’s simple.
Here’s the thing: I’m twelve years old…and I’m dying.
And as much as this could crush my mother, I have to meet you before I go.
In time, I’m sure she’ll understand. She’s still in love with you.
So, Epic, if you read this, please come back. You don’t have to be my dad. You don’t even have to tell me you love me or you’re sorry. Just come see me.
Patiently waiting, but running out of time,
Neena
B N Toler lives in Virginia. When she’s not reading and writing, she’s thinking about reading and writing. Before she became a self-proclaimed writer, she worked as a real estate agent and as an orthodontic technician. **She will notice your teeth before your eyes or hair or anything.**
She enjoys shopping (way too much) and is on a first name basis with several employees at the local Target in her town.
She loves music,(bluegrass, country, 80’s, actually she loves most music ~her favorite song is American Pie by Don McLean and she worships anything that is Elvis and Johnny Cash and Eric Church) dancing, (even though she sucks at it)reading, writing, eating (too much) sleeping late, (which she rarely gets to do) and laughing. If you can make her laugh, she will love you forever.

You know when you read the blurb this book is gonna be a emotional journey! How could I not take a chance when you’ve got such interesting and catchy synopsis? I wouldn’t missed it and I flew.

Neena is dying 12 yo girl. When one of her letter searching desperately her father sent and published on craigslist, her life is gonna change for ever and for the best.

Paul and Clara; her parents had history; from enemies to friends then to lovers, Neena has to fulfill a gap of twelve years, to learn about how they met, fight, hate but mostly never cease to love each other. Not the distance could erase the connection, intense pull.

I really enjoyed how Neena got to know and understand them; through interviews.

Even with a super charged emotional story, It was really interesting to discover the main characters, peeling all the layers, feeling intensely each moment. It was breathtaking, written in a brilliant way without ever falling into pathos. Just what Paul and Clara felt, go through the stages of their daughter’s illness, until the end.

Paul and Clara … Not love at first sight thirteen years ago. When Clara inherited half part of Paul’s business, things were getting messy, troubled and it was definitely war. She was brave, fierce and a little uptight but she was determined to make their business a successful one even if she was bullied and disrespected by her employees. Until one moment where in their constant foreplay they became friends. Paul was not a man searching for a family and a white picket fence, just for his next thrill of adrenaline, and his growing attachment for Clara was scaring him to death and when things getting too intense for his heart, he ran away as usual.

Their past … A heartbroken past story with a trail of broken promises and fear of second chances.

Neena was truly my hero here. A wonderful example of strength, compassion and selflessness. Just admirable and the kid was sometimes the adult here. Aware of her limited time, she was living in the moment. Sometimes it was very hard, painful and as the story unfold, the slow path of her last time, last breath.
What brought them together was their unconditional love for their daughter, this story stirred so many emotions … I was holding until the end the ugly cries and when this time comes, I almost lost it. I am just mad to see how sometimes life can be unfair, but in those moments that you could find true happiness. Desperately seeking EPIC blew my mind, it was a hell of a jump and I enjoyed the drop to the fullest!
