I fell in love with series from the first one. Books after books, my heartfelt affection and love for this universe but mostly for the characters who shared their stories, flaw and all, showing the shape of their hearts and soul; took my breath away.
Michelle Mankin wrote such breathtaking stories with tortured characters bringing a strong hint of emotion that would break your heart and throughout their journey making it whole again.
I’ve been waiting for Ashland’s story for so long. Damn if I haven’t been literally captivated by this beautiful soul who couldn’t see past his darkness and also facing the consequences of his reckless and wild lifestyle. A tortured hero, selfless, protective of his loved ones, taking care of everyone, putting his needs aside. He’s been punishing himself, sheltered and living for most of the time like a recluse. A troubled man who was trying to fill a void.
Once again, I was overwhelmed, surrounded by this sea of whirlwind emotions, wave after wave, getting so naturally into the flow. There were some tough subjects, the characters weren’t spared, and even from all abuse and condition they experienced, the magnificent and precious bond, giving so much strength to fight back.
It needed one beautiful and broken soul to find another one. The connection was here but the timing wasn’t right. From the first moment these two gave me butterflies. Fanny was dedicated to her family, a musician who literally knocked Ashland. I adored this strong and selfless woman, fighting until her last breath to protect her sister.
After some tough life experiences, they had given for a second chance but how could they past all the secrets and darkness well hidden?
The chemistry was intense, like just in one look you could feel it too. The power of words, a simple touch or glance, the author conveyed in a magnificent way all the emotions bottled inside.
I’ve been high on the emotional side, going from one moment to another, watching two people falling in love, struggling with her issues always with honesty. They accepted each other entirely, always supportive not without some fighting.
Every time I read about this bunch of friends, part of The Dirty Dogs band, surfers and musicians, I fell more in love with them. Incredible friends who’d support each other no matter what, fighting every battle, one by one, making you feel like you being but mostly to make you believe in second chances.
