I adored A.L. Jackson’s series Fight For Me. This series about these friends who have endured a tragedy that tied them for life but also torn some of them apart.
From the moment I met these characters and I wanted to read Ollie’s story and I wasn’t disappointed. It was about damn time to unravel the truth about his sister’s disappearance, fourteen years ago, still unsolved. So many resentment, anger for a man who blamed himself.
Ollie and Nikki were best friends and also part of the trio they once were with Sydney, Ollie’s little sister. When she disappeared, all the foundation they built and solidified for years, just broke down. And oh my, these two had such history, from lovers to strangers.
I think I had a thing for tortured characters, and Ollie was definitely one. Punishing himself and closing him off to happiness, he was hanging on to the past, from memories that kept him from moving forward like all his friends did. Peace wasn’t on his plan, sinking deeper into the darkness instead of fighting. A beast of a man who couldn’t find his way back.
Until Nikki. The one who could undo him. The one who held his heart from the first time. His everything. And damn if these two weren’t just tortured and tormented. She might have been in love for her whole life with him but she was trying so hard to move on and to find something to make her happy, to stay under the light, helping others when needed, to be there for them no matter what.
When Ollie and Nikki found their way back again, they didn’t expect to have their past to collide so brutally with the present. The tension was more than palpable, so much angst and incredible chemistry. It seemed so darn complicated between these two but irradiated so much passion and love.
But Ollie couldn’t help to protect Nikki, to love her from afar, thinking he wasn’t enough and not deserving of her love. Being hot and cold, hurting her in the process. They drove me mad, my heart burst so many times, broke twice as much, but at the end it made so incredibly happy, content to have all pieces brought together.
A heartbreaking but so magnificent story… All the secrets are finally revealed, after a long time staying in the dark, finding the one who could fight with you and make you stronger, the missing piece that put everything in the right place. It might have taken some time for Ollie to find his way back, a long battle to find peace but leading right home.
