Eight years ago, I gave Grayson Price a piece of my heart.
To him, I was the strange girl whose mom had just abandoned her.
To me, he was a savior, an anchor, someone who stood beside me on that beach.
The next time I saw him, I was twenty, and he was thirty-six.
He didn’t remember me.
And when he flirted…
I didn’t tell him.
By the time he found out, it was too late.
We tried to deny our desire, but our attraction was too enticing.
Eight years ago, I gave Grayson Price a piece of my heart.
Too bad he’s my dad’s best friend.

A forbidden story about a man who fell for his old friend’s daughter? I wanted to hear that story.
Grayson used to be a lone wolf, shielding from relationships, married to his job and never lasting interest in women, until her, forbidden in so many ways, River.
River has always been apart, not really finding her place in this world and also having strong feelings for Grayson, someone who was there for her when she was in a dark place.
I’ve been drawn firsthand by this tension and connection they shared but still some parts of the story constantly emphasized River’s issues. This wasn’t about being vulnerable but seeing like she was a « spoiled child » not a young woman who had suffered and not really knowing the meaning of feeling wanted or belong to.
The age gap was a part of the forbidden but when Grayson was fighting so hard not to resist that pull, his reasons were just a bit childish, trying to diminish River. I got his point somehow but it was just going in circles.
I enjoyed it overall but I wanted things more in-depth, to let people see more than their age gap and to work things in a more mature way than using sex to avoid the real deal sometimes.
The ending felt a bit rushed to me, and it would have been more interesting to have more pages to conclude their journey and to strengthen the story. However, River and Grayson were endearing characters that finally found their home and mostly a way to be themselves truly.
