I absolutely love re-reading books and seeing if I am the same person I was when I first read them, and if I can discover some hidden secret that was previously concealed from me. My love of writing stems from this love of reading, and I would truly be nowhere without it. The second installment in The Before You series got me hooked from the first page.
I loved how things took another level on Gwen’s life, she tried to open up to people and mostly for the few ones who she now considered her friends and family.
Damn if I was frustrated because she was sometimes so stuck into her mind, when she totally felt prisoner of her own demons, triggers of her past, and still struggling to share all the things she endured.
And Colt, oh my that one, how could you not fall for that man? Who was totally in tune with her, seeing right through her. He wasn’t perfect and knew not to push her. Sexy, hot, dominant but so tender at the same time.
I was so rooting for these two.
The author could definitely write intense and smoking hot sex scenes, bringing Gwen and Colt relationship to a higher level, showing how passionate, raw and real they were. Well, you got my point. It was hot but so much more. While they could be on the same physically, they still had difficulties to share their past, not pushing the other too much, giving time to share it on their own terms.
I was scared throughout this story and I could sense how her past was going to catch her at some point. Damn, I was right.
Even if I would never understand the extent of Gwen’s traumatic experience, the author managed to convey perfectly the cruelty and psychological consequences of her father’s hatred and how it affected her everyday. How it is often rooted in ignorance, when people could actually believe it. This was a frightening thought.
I appreciated seeing Gwen less unobtrusive, brave and gaining confidence.
The author’s writing style was more assertive and I could definitely see the progress from the first book. I am so going to read the final installment. I admit that I’m not a fan of stories spread out over three books but still the author managed to keep me interested until the end and going on for more. I couldn’t stop reading.
I liked that there was no huge cliffy at the end of the book but just giving me a glimpse of what’s coming next.
