Suddenly, the door to Garrett’s room cracks open, and he peeks his head out, damn near startling me into another dimension.
Noticing my hysterical jump and defensive pose, he quiets his voice to a whisper. “Sorry to, um, startle you. I just… I’m ready.”
“Of course. Yeah.” I nod feverishly, follow him into the room, and take a few discreet, calming breaths to slow down the rate at which my heart is sprinting inside my chest. Honestly, for a woman who did gymnastics in her childhood, you’d think my cardiovascular system would be able to tolerate adrenaline a little better than this. A minor startle from a hot fireman and I’m panting like a dog in heat.
His gown covers everything, but it’s strangely anticipatory and it feels like I’m seeing more of him than I should. It’s weird and odd and completely irrational. So, I shut my eyes for a brief moment and force myself into doctor mode.
“Just take a seat on the exam table, please,” I instruct him with a gesture of my hand.
He does without question.
Then I start my assessment.
First, his vital signs. Blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
All good. All within normal limits.
Next, with my stethoscope, I listen to his heart and lungs and abdomen.
Also, good. Steady, strong, clear.
“Am I going to live to see another day, Dr. Lauren?” he asks once I finish a quick reflex check, smirking up at me from his spot on the exam table, and I can’t not return his expression with a grin.
“Yes, it appears that you will,” I answer and make a few notes in his chart. “Now, if you don’t mind, please stand up in front of the exam table so I can…uh…check…your…uh…te$ticles.”
Okay, Lauren. Be cool. Be. Cool. It’s just another day at the office, and Garrett is just another set of anatomy…

Garrett and Lauren made me smile a lot, swooned tons and laughed so hard it hurts!
I adored their instant chemistry and also so awkward, meet cute or I would say meet balls and I knew I was already rooting for this couple!
These two, too freaking adorable and cute!
The charming and too sexy fireman, recently divorced with two children was too tempting not to ignore. The charm was operating so smoothly and this hero was just too much at times.(in a good way of course)
He had a demanding job and saving lives was always a priority, as was his family, spending every free time being there for them. His twins were a joyful bunch of kids who took definitely after their father.
Lauren, she was the highlight of the book. I laughed so many times I lost count. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, natural and a tendency to speak to herself, her inner conversations and thoughts. She had this ability to make people at ease with her kindness, to make them feel like home. A mix of endearing cute and sexy.
Totally what Garrett was searching without even trying.
I was curious about the turning events because they kept their relationship secret, but still I enjoyed how they let each other in, taking time to learn about the other, realizing very quickly that it wasn’t temporary at all. They enjoyed their time together and never took things for granted, having a partner risking his life everyday, with long shifts, showing how difficult it was to find someone who could understand.
The hidden relationship was a little dragged to me but the authors managed to work the storyline greatly about this and it was well rounded! Especially with all the great characters out there!
Hot Stuff had plenty of chemistry, refreshing, charming with a good sense of humour.
