Single dad, a woman who needed an escape, working as his nanny? I was pretty curious, Kat’s sister, Tori sounded like pretty fun and full of surprises.
Tori and Ethan literally started on the wrong foot, not getting along from the first time they met.
I did enjoy their first interactions, the back and forth entertaining and a bit fun. Opposites did definitely attract; Tori, sassy, witty and upfront; Ethan more secretive, observer and devoted to his family, working hard, and getting divorced.
Two different personalities who might seemed unmatched, but with some matchmaking from family and friends, well these got close, probably more than they should be. The lines are gonna be blurred for sure.
As much as I adored single dads stories, I couldn’t really connect with the heroine. Ethan was more than swoony, a man who wore his heart on his sleeve. As the story unfold, I was reading their story, watching at every turn the moment when the shoe would drop, like I was feeling the drama would explode.
I appreciated that the author tried to take time to get the characters to really know each other, to develop their relationship, but it was too dragged out to me, like the quiet before the storm. I was more happier to read about some characters I’ve met in Shameless, like Kat and Brady. I lost sometimes interest in Tori and Ethan.
I mostly appreciated this book because of Ethan. Really different from the heroes I used to meet in romance novels, down to earth, trying his best to take care of his family. Definitely not perfect, still but there was something that made you connect easily with.
It was too smooth to me, lacking of some rhythm at times. I felt like the all drama and resolutions came a bit late and not providing enough room to develop their HEA. It was just rushed.
However, in spite of this half-hearted result, the author managed to bring some secondary characters out, as Ethan’s brother, who should really get a book. Just saying!
