I knew that I’d be on an emotional ride. The author tortured me, stirring emotions, making me suffer… damn my heart.
Evan and AJ were best friends until the moment all the promises they’ve made years ago were broken, when these two who were everything for each other, breathing the same air and almost beating as one for all their lives became strangers.
AJ was in love with Evan, who seemed to only see her like a sister and no more, who I had to say failed to her so many times. So oblivious, caring in his own but taking her friendship and love for granted. Not really putting her needs at the same levels than his. Oh dear Evan, I was pissed… tsk tsk
I might have seen AJ like fragile or being too kind and forgiving when it came to Evan, but I got it. She was stronger than she looked like. As the story unfold we got to see AJ standing on her own, trying to heal her broken heart. I appreciated to see her finally shine and not being overshadowed by Evan.
We got to see their relationship in the past when it was only them against the world, making us understand how they reached this point, when you took things for granted and in way not being the best friend you should have been.
The dynamic between them was really interesting, when one was good, the other was as well, and on the contrary it was the same thing.
There was harm being done from both parts, unsaid things and misunderstandings that slowly tore them apart; Evan for being oblivious and in denial, AJ for not being honest about her real feelings. Even the strong bond they shared was not enough.
It took just a betrayal for making them realize that even the distance could make this easier, their hearts were still trying to find their way back to each other, making feelings growing, stronger than before. A mix of angsty and sweetness.
Len Webster strikes again… damn my emotions.
I knew this story about two best friends entitled “The Theory of Unrequited” would be heavy emotionally speaking, two people who have lost themselves in the way, leading to heartbreak, broken promises and hearts. The ifs and the whys…
I’ve tried to understand all the complexities of this theory, whichever way you looked at it, always came back to one point. Love is never easy… AJ and Evan proved it.
