I’m always saying that every last book Ginger Scott has written is my favorite but Cry Baby took my breath away, I fall in love with Tristan and Riley so hard.
This gut wrenching story about a boy on the wrong side and the girl who pulled him into the light, was filled with so much truth, depicting a frightening reality.
I was totally hooked from the first page. I knew from the start that I would be more than once moved by this upfront tone, charged with some angst. This might be fiction but it felt so real to me, from the characters’ feelings to their reality, they were something that hits close to home. This feeling of not belonging, to follow a dangerous path and being trapped in a life when you have to survive.
I adored Tristan and Riley. Both from different worlds, they collided so beautifully. I don’t know if age count but I loved them acting more like kids of their age instead of the role they had to fill, growing a bit faster than the others. Finding just for a little time, a bit of innocence and the right to be insouciant.
When Tristan rejected her, she pushed back harder. She was a force a nature not to be reckoned with. Accepting Tristan for his true self, reading him like an open book, seeing past the reputation. A boy struggling about his situation, selfless and caring more than he seemed to be.
I went through so many emotions while reading it. The author gave life to characters in a powerful way. In so doing, it brought emotional and some poetic intensity to their story.
The words put on paper, laying out their fears and baring their soul was moving and meaningful. My heart almost broke a little as the story unfolds. I loved every moment, watching them grew up and evolving, going through life.
